How to review a Storyline course without a Storyline license
You are the SME, the compliance reviewer or the LMS admin. You have a .story file and no seat. Here is how to do a real review from the file itself.
New to .story files? Start with what is inside one and how to open it without Storyline.
What a reviewer actually needs
- Every slide's text, in the order a learner reads it.
- The quiz questions with the correct answers marked.
- The course settings that decide completion.
- What changed since the version you already approved.
- A way to record that you reviewed it, and what you waived.
The usual way
The developer publishes, uploads to a review site or an LMS test instance, and sends a link. The reviewer clicks through. The publish takes time, the upload takes time, the reviewer sees only the paths they click, the answer key is invisible, and round two starts the whole cycle again. On a course that goes through six rounds, the publish-and-upload step alone can add a week.
Do it in StoryAudit
Drop the .story file into StoryAudit in your browser. No Storyline license, no install, and the file never leaves your machine.
- Read every slide's on-screen text, media and interactions in reading order. Course Docs → Slide-by-slide contents
- Check the quiz answer key with correct answers marked, and the course settings summary. Course Docs → Review & sign-off
- Run the Health Check for broken jumps, orphan slides, placeholder text and accessibility gaps. Health Check
- Export what you found as PDF, text, CSV or email and send it to the developer. any tab → export
Read the bundled sample course the way a reviewer would. No sign-up.

When the fixed version arrives, drop both files into Compare and read the changelog: which slides changed, word-level text differences, quiz answers that flipped, media replaced. You review what changed instead of the whole course again. If you no longer have the version you approved, a snapshot saved from the first review stands in for it.
Sign-off
Waive a finding, or sign off on a course version, with your verified sign-in recorded against it rather than just saved in a browser. On a Team plan every reviewer has their own login under one subscription, waivers and run history sync, and files stay local; only decisions sync.
