PowerPoint export
Drop one file, open Course Docs, and press the PowerPoint button.
- Every slide, with its text as real, editable text: bullets, numbering, bold, italic and links.
- Shapes as PowerPoint shapes, including callouts and arrows, and lines with their arrowheads.
- Pictures, icons and tables.
- Every layer, as its own slide after the slide it belongs to.

Handouts and study guides New
Drop one file, open Course Docs, and press Download next to Handouts and study guides.
- Six page layouts: Slides (two a page), Notes below (one slide a page with lines for notes), Notes beside (landscape, lines beside), 3 per page (lines beside each), Study guide (each slide’s picture and words, and the knowledge checks) and Text only (the words and the knowledge checks).
- A learner edition with a name and date line on the cover, or an instructor edition that says so on the cover and adds the slide notes.
- Knowledge checks with the correct answers marked, left blank, or left out with their slides. Choices are mixed, so where the right answer sits gives nothing away. Questions drawn from a question bank don’t print yet.
- Each slide’s words in reading order, with bullets and numbered lists kept. Results slides are left out.
- A cover with a title you choose (Handout, Study guide, Student manual, Participant guide and more, or your own) and the course name.
- Word (.docx) to edit before you print, or PDF through your browser’s print dialog.
- Slide pictures drawn from the .story file. When a font the course uses isn’t on your computer, a similar one stands in and StoryAudit says which.

Compare
Drop two files: an old version and a new version of the same course.
- Slide-by-slide diff: added, removed, changed, unchanged. Matches slides even when Storyline rebuilt the slide's internal ID, as long as the content is the same.
- Question-bank slides are compared too, listed separately at the end since they have no fixed position in a real course.
- Word-level text diff, with a formatting-change indicator (font, size, color, paragraph styling) on hover.
- Trigger diff on every slide, layer and object: jumps, show and hide layer, variable and state changes, submit, mark complete and JavaScript, including conditions. Slide notes, slide order, scene names, quiz feedback text, and objects that moved, changed timing, start hidden or gained alt text are compared too. Animations, colors and master slide design aren't, and the on-screen legend says so.
- A changed correct answer on any quiz question, flagged inline on the slide and in the changelog.
- Media added, removed, or replaced, with before/after thumbnails. "Media changes" section
- Layer diff: text, media, web objects and other shapes, on the layers a learner only sees when something triggers them.

Health Check
Drop one file, for diagnosis.
- Tracking / completion mismatch: an inference from settings, not a certain break.
- Broken references: broken jump targets, missing image/audio/video files, unresolved variable reads/writes, %Name% text references to a variable the course doesn't have, show/hide layer and change-state triggers aimed at a layer or object that's gone, and empty or malformed "Open URL/File" triggers and text hyperlinks. Checked on slides, quiz feedback layers, and the layouts and masters in use. Every web and file link in the course is also listed with the slide it's on, with a CSV download. Also flags triggers that never run: ones listed below a jump to another slide on the same object and event, which Storyline never gets to.
- Unused and write-only variables: a variable nothing ever reads, or one that's set but its value is never checked by a condition or trigger. Also variables only JavaScript uses, which Storyline's Variables list counts as unused, so a cleanup there could delete them.
- Orphaned content: slides nothing can reach, and layers nothing ever triggers.
- Size & bloat: largest files by type, plus duplicate files saved under different names.
- Accessibility: alt text and audio caption coverage. Doesn't check color contrast, focus order or keyboard traps.
- Blank or duplicate slide/scene titles, plus whether skip-navigation, playback speed control, and the Play/Pause button are on for learners.
- Dead air: slides where the audio or video ends well before the slide's own timeline, default 5+ seconds, adjustable.
- Placeholder text scan: Lorem ipsum filler, TODO/TBD notes, bracketed placeholders like "[insert client name]".
- Terminology consistency: flags when a course uses the same term two ways ("setup" vs "set-up," "Warning" vs "warning"), and estimates where text may overflow its box at the current font size. The overflow estimate doesn't account for text boxes set to auto-resize.
- Spelling: likely misspellings and repeated words ("the the"), matched against a curated list of common errors.
- Readability: Flesch Reading Ease and Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level for the course's text as a whole. A gauge of density based on sentence and word length, not a judgment of quality.
- Style consistency: a text size, font or color used on one slide when a close match is used across the rest of the course, found automatically with no setup.
- Style guide compliance: set allowed fonts, a body-text size range, and allowed colors once, and every off-guide text box is flagged. Saved on your device and reused for every review, including as a Batch Check policy rule.
- Shortest path to completion: can a learner reach "complete" while skipping content?
- Findings rail: a sidebar listing all ten checks (the nine check sections plus Tracking) with live finding counts and severity colors, always in view on a long report.
- Waive or restore individual findings, with a reviewer name, timestamp and optional reason recorded. Waiving works the same way in every check, and a whole group can be waived at once.
- "Review record" PDF export of broken-reference and placeholder findings with waive status.
- Share waived findings as a file for anyone to import, or connect to a team (create one, or join with an invite code) and sync them with a click instead. Batch Check's pass/fail rules and the style guide save to the team too, so everyone checks against the same standard, and the team's sign-offs and waivers download as spreadsheets. - Save a snapshot to compare against later.
- Export as text, a findings CSV (one row per finding), JSON, self-contained HTML, PDF, or email; separate CSV work list for accessibility gaps.
Course Docs
Drop one file, for documentation and handoff.
- Quiz answer key, correct answers marked, for multiple choice, multiple response, true/false, matching and pick one or pick many questions. Other types are listed so you can check them by hand. "Review & sign-off"
- Quiz answer key export to Moodle XML, ready to import into a Moodle question bank: Multiple Choice, Multiple Response, True/False, Freeform Pick One/Pick Many, and Matching (drag-and-drop and drop-down) questions with a marked correct answer and readable choice text. Freeform Drag-and-Drop and any question missing a marked answer are listed separately rather than guessed at. "Review & sign-off" → "download as Moodle XML"
- Quiz answer key export in Storyline's own question import format, question banks included, to reuse the questions in another Storyline course: Multiple Choice, Multiple Response, True/False and Matching, with their points and correct answers. Questions the format can't hold are named at the top of the file. Answer key → "Export this view" → "Download for Storyline import"
- Course settings summary: tracking, completion, pass score/time limit. Reflects the saved project, not necessarily what's live in your LMS.
- Estimated seat time, as a ballpark figure for planning.
- Course outline, numbered to match Storyline's own Scene/Slide numbering. "Handoff exports"
- Slide-by-slide contents: every slide's on-screen text, media, web objects, and interactive shapes, in reading order, with a two-column translation-template export (source / translation).
- Glossary terms and the Resources list, whether or not those tabs are turned on in the course.
- Media asset inventory: every used file, its size, and which slide it's on. "Inventory"

Batch Check
Drop a folder (or select multiple files at once).
- Runs Health Check on every course in the folder at once, one sortable results table.
- Click any course row to open its findings in a side panel, with a button through to the full Health Check or Compare view if you need it.
- "Changed vs. snapshot" table, shown when a folder snapshot is loaded.
- Flags files that couldn't be read, with the error shown.
- Save a snapshot for the whole folder, for future whole-library diffing without keeping old files.
- Policy rules: set your own pass/fail thresholds once, covering things like quiz scoring, accessibility, media size, broken references, style guide compliance, player settings (resume behavior, menu navigation, seekbar, playback speed), completion tracking and LMS reporting, and every sweep checks every course against them. Translation Check
Drop one XLIFF translation export. No .story file needed.
- Reads the XLIFF file Storyline itself exports for translators (File → Localization → XLIFF/Word Translation → Export), XLIFF 1.2 or 2.0.
- Flags untranslated segments: anywhere the target is still empty or still matches the source.
- Flags variable-placeholder risk: a segment whose Storyline variable reference (e.g. %variable%) didn't survive translation intact.
- Flags likely text-overflow risk: a translated segment substantially longer than its source, worth a look before it clips on a slide.
- Flags markup that can stop Storyline importing the file: formatting tags dropped, added or edited, and a bare & or < in the translated text.
- Flags a line translated more than one way: the same source text given a different translation elsewhere in the file, with how many segments use each version. Found automatically, no glossary needed.
- Optional machine-drafted first pass for whatever's left untranslated, using the on-device translation model built into Chrome or Edge. "generate draft translation"
- Every machine-drafted segment is marked in the exported file itself:
state="needs-review-translation"in XLIFF 1.2 output, an equivalent<note category="mt-draft">in XLIFF 2.0 output. Any translation tool that opens the file afterward shows it as an unreviewed draft. - A segment with a variable placeholder it can't confidently preserve stays in the source language for a translator to handle.
- Waive or restore individual findings, with a reviewer name, date, and optional reason recorded, using the same shared mechanism as Health Check and Batch Check, exportable on its own.
Text Fixes
Drop the course's .story file, or an XLIFF export from Storyline.
- Reads the text straight from the .story, so nobody has to export anything from Storyline first.
- Every line shows under its slide, layer and quiz question.
- An XLIFF export from Storyline works too, the same file Translation Check reads. Add the .story alongside it to group the lines by slide.
- Read the course one paragraph at a time, with bold and italics shown as they appear on the slide.
- Click any paragraph to fix its wording. Variables like %UserName% are checked on save so a fix can't drop or break one.
- Slide names and placeholder text stay hidden unless you want them.
- Search every line to jump to a name, a term or a phrase.
- Undo any fix and go back to the original text.
- Step by step: fixing the wording without Storyline.
- Download one fixes file that changes only the lines you fixed. The developer imports it with Storyline's own translation import (File → Localization → XLIFF/Word Translation → Import).
- Print a before-and-after list of every fix for anyone who needs to sign off.
- Your fixes stay in this browser until you download them, so a reload doesn't lose your work.
Works everywhere
Features that work across every tab.
- File rescue: when a .story file fails to load in Health Check, Compare, or Batch Check, StoryAudit reads the raw file to say specifically why, verifies which files still pass their own checksum, and repairs truncated or lightly damaged story.xml and slide XML where it safely can. Download includes a rebuilt .story file when the course structure comes back, or the individual recovered files otherwise. No sign-in required, works from a direct link too. How file rescue works
