How to export all the text and the quiz answer key from a Storyline course
For the SME who wants to read it in order, the editor who wants a document, the LMS admin who wants the questions, and the developer who has to produce all three.
What Storyline gives you
Storyline can publish to Word, which produces a page per slide with an image of the slide and the slide notes. It can export text for translation. It has no export of the quiz answer key, no export of on-screen content in reading order, and no way to get the authored media files back out under their real names. When a reviewer asks for “just the text,” a developer usually copies it out slide by slide.
The manual way
- Copy and paste the on-screen text slide by slide into a document, layers included, and hope the reading order survives.
- Open every quiz slide's form view and write the correct answer down.
- Screenshot the settings dialogs for pass score and completion.
- Dig the media out of the published output under Storyline's internal filenames.
Do it in StoryAudit
Drop the .story file into Course Docs. No Storyline license needed, nothing uploads.
- Slide-by-slide contents: every slide's on-screen text, media, web objects and interactive shapes, in reading order, whether or not the slide has a title. Course Docs → Slide-by-slide contents
- The quiz answer key, every question type, correct answers marked, plus an export to Moodle XML that imports straight into a Moodle question bank. Course Docs → Review & sign-off
- A course outline numbered to match Storyline's own scene and slide numbers, a course settings summary (tracking, completion, pass score, time limit), and an estimated seat time. Course Docs → Handoff exports
- Glossary terms and the Resources list, whether or not those tabs are turned on in the course. Course Docs → Glossary and Resources
- A media inventory: every file, its size and the slide it is on, with a download of the actual authored images, audio and video under readable names. Course Docs → Inventory
- Caption export to standard .vtt from any audio or video that has a transcript. Course Docs → Inventory → transcript
- Text search across slides, layers and quiz answers, and an exact-match image search to find every slide using one file. Course Docs → Logic & search
- Export any section, or all of them, as text, PDF, CSV or email. Course Docs → export
Open the bundled sample course and export its answer key. No sign-up.
Open the live demo →Handing it to someone without StoryAudit
The asset pack is one zip: the media plus a manifest.csv listing every file, its kind, the slide it is on, and its alt text or caption. Send that with the PDF export and a reviewer has the whole course in hand without a seat of anything.
